Buckshot Software, the studio behind the Project Warlock series, has just revealed that the sequel to the original retro FPS (first-person shooter) will be released into Steam Early Access in October, a few weeks after its newly launched Kickstarter campaign ends.

Project Warlock II’s Kickstarter campaign is a rather symbolic way of saying thank you to those who love the original and want to get involved in the sequel or buy it at a low price. The developers have already secured the budget required to fully develop Project Warlock II before the launch of the Kickstarted campaign, hence the goal of just €205.

Five years ago, I launched a Kickstarter to get the required fee for my game to submit it to Steam Greenlight. I set out to get 90 EUR for that. That game was Exitium 3D, which then morphed into Cataclysm 3D, and finally settled on Project Warlock. I smashed the 90 EUR goal and ended up with 205.  Crazy money. Today I am launching a Kickstarter with a goal of 205 EUR as a testament to that time.”

There are three main reasons the Project Warlock II Kickstarter exists: a change to get the best deal for the game, a chance to get exclusive physical rewards for the game, and a chance for fans to leave their mark on the upcoming game.

Project Warlock II is a much more ambitious game, so it will require a bigger budget to build. Although it will retain the visceral gunplay and relentless tempo of the original, it will feature totally revamped visuals, twice the weapons, and three times the warlocks, worlds, and gameplay.

Buckshot Software announced that Project Warlock II is expected to release into Steam Early Access sometime in October, just a few weeks after the Kickstarter campaign ends.
