Slightly Mad Studios confirms, just one month after releasing Project Cars, its crowdfunded racing simulator, that it's working on a full-fledged sequel titled, what else, Project Cars 2. At the same time, it will also make new downloadable content and updates for the original title.

Project Cars captured the hearts and minds of racing game fans quite a few years ago as it arrived from developer Slightly Mad Studios, the UK-based team that brought forth the stellar Need for Speed Shift titles, as well as the GTR games many years ago.

The title got crowdfunded by the community and was finally released on PC, PS4, and Xbox One at the beginning of May.

Project Cars 2 is coming via crowdfunding

Now, Slightly Mad confirms on its website that it has begun work on Project Cars 2 and that, just like with its predecessor, it will use a crowdfunding method to ensure that fans can pledge their support and start testing the title as soon as possible.

It's also confirmed quite a few target features for Project Cars 2, including the largest track roster ever, consisting of 50 unique locations and 200+ courses, including "loose surface" ones such as dirt, gravel, mud, or snow.

Eight different motorsports will be included, with Touge, Hillclimbs, and Rallycross joining the existing ones, featuring 200+ cars.

The single-player career will now also support a cooperative experience, as a buddy can work as a teammate driver, spotter, or co-pilot. Those with social preferences can compete in Online Track Days via the Driver Network.

Last but not least, Project Cars 2 will support professional eSports racing and brings a special Test Track for players to hone their cars.

Project Cars 1 will still get updates and DLC

At the same time, Slightly Mad Studios emphasizes that it will continue to release new downloadable content for Project Cars 1, as well as updates and patches designed to ensure that it works well.

It will be interesting to see just how fans will react to this surprise sequel.
