14 DAY TRIAL // Adult “entertainment” website Pornhub has posted a new round of web traffic statistics for 2016, confirming what we already knew: Windows users are still holding the crown for cleaning their pipes online, as most of the porn is watched from systems powered by Microsoft’s OS.
While Pornhub’s statistics include plenty of details that we’re not gonna talk about because of obvious reasons, let’s focus on those that are a little bit more relevant for a tech community.
First and foremost, operating systems. Windows is the preferred choice for those who go online to spend some quality time alone, with Pornhub saying that 80 percent of the devices that connected to their servers last year were running Microsoft’s OS.
MacOS is far behind with just 14 percent, while Linux users seem to enjoy more playing with USB sticks rather than playing with… non-USB sticks, as only 3 percent of the systems were running the OS when they accessed Pornhub in 2016.
On the other hand, the site says that Linux experienced a 14 percent increase, while Windows posted just a 1 percent growth. Of course, these stats are strongly tied to global market share, so the growth of Linux worldwide also translated to growth in Pornhub stats.
Mobile stats
Then, there’s the mobile category because everyone enjoys watching porn in the darkest corner of their homes. 50 percent of the devices were running Android, and this isn’t surprising at all given the fact that approximately 80 percent of smartphones across the globe are powered by this particular OS.
Want to know what’s more surprising? iOS, which obviously has a smaller market share than Android worldwide, is very close to its rival in terms of Pornhub share, as 47 percent of devices were iPhones and iPads. This must have something to do with the fact that most teens still prefer the iPhone instead of Android phones. Just saying.
Overall, 61 percent of the devices used to access Pornhub were mobile phones, which means that people no longer enjoy sitting in a chair and watching porn on a bigger screen. And in fact, they do have a point, as holding a phone with one hand is so much easier. Only 28 percent of them use a PC, and just 11 percent stick with tablets.
For what it’s worth, Cuba has 3 times more users accessing Pornhub from mobile devices than in the previous year.
