Rumors have been talking about the major changes that firmware 3.0 is supposed to introduce for the PlayStation 4 and it seems that Sony is set to deliver a beta program for it in order to make sure that the update does not have any problems when it is launched.

The company explains on the PS Blog that it wants to recruit a solid group of users in order to test the tweaks, with them able to see the new features and then report on how they might be improved.

Sony states, "You will need a PS4 system (of course), an Internet connection, and a master account - sub-accounts cannot participate in the program. Make sure you’re a member of the PlayStation Forums in advance to get access to our beta forums. Also, beta testers will be able to roll back to the previous PS4 system software update (v2.57) anytime."

The beta program for firmware 3.0 for the PlayStation 4 will be launched at some point in early September, and the company will then also offer official information on the changes that are being made.

Apparently, only a limited number of testers are required, and those who sign up quickly will have a bigger chance to take part.

PlayStation 4 will get more social options with firmware 3.0

A leak says that gamers will be able to quickly upload video to Twitter and will get more options when it comes to streaming, which should be easier to start.

Sony is also seemingly making changes to some of the menus and features so that users have an easier time connecting with friends and seeing their activity.

Given the fact that the beta test for firmware 3.0 for the PlayStation 4 will take place in September, it's probable that Sony will aim to deliver a full launch at some point in October or even November.

Improvements to features, including streaming and social elements, are important for both those who already own a console and those who are looking to pick one up in the future.

The PlayStation 4 is at the moment leading the sales race with the Xbox One, and firmware 3.0 will help it in its attempt to maintain this position during the important Christmas shopping season.
