14 DAY TRIAL // Google managed to keep a tight lid on the upcoming Pixel 4 phones, but it looks like we finally see some proper renders.
People are used to knowing how the new version of Pixel looks long before the launch, usually through an avalanche of leaks. For some reason, Google managed to keep the secret a little bit longer with the Pixel 4, but now some credible information appeared online.
OnLeaks (via PRICEBABA) is usually on point with the leaks, and there is no reason not to believe them, but we have to keep one thing in mind. These images are renders and not actual pictures, and they are based on “early prototyping schematics.”
Not final, but not unlikely
“Early prototyping schematics” means that it's possible that the design could change by the time of the launch. But, if we look at how Google kept its secrets in the past few years, we’ll see that we’ll likely know everything about the phone.
More importantly, leaks are usually a source of joy and new information for fans, but the things we’re now seeing are not all that encouraging. The most obvious is the square housing for multiple cameras (at least two), which incidentally makes it look a lot like the iPhone 11 leaks. It does point towards a more advanced camera experience, but it’s not going to be pretty on the eyes.
Also, the speakers were moved on the sides, and they are no longer front facing, which is reminiscent of Nexus 6P. Holding that phone meant covering the speakers, which was a big problem.
And then there is the lack of a fingerprint sensor. It might very well be implemented directly on the screen, but Google might also opt not to use it at all. And to close the list of bad news, there is no 3,5 jack. Pixel 3a gave us some hope that it might return, but it doesn’t seem to be the case.
It's safe to say that the community is not happy about the design and Reddit is full of people disappointed about the new design.
