14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has revamped its phone business, and as part of this plan, the company tried to significantly cut the number of devices available on the market, with new information claiming that Redmond could go for as down as just one handset for its own lineup.
In the meantime, however, photos coming from Italian website AggiornamenteLumia show what’s believed to be the Lumia 850, or the Lumia Honjo, as Microsoft itself has referred to the device internally.
As you can see for yourselves in the gallery below, the phone adopts the same Lumia design language but appears to look similar to the Lumia 650, a model unveiled earlier this year and currently on sale in several markets around the world. Lumia 650 is often referred to as the most beautiful Windows 10 Mobile handset to date, coming with premium touches packaged in a mid-range device.
Low-end Windows 10 Mobile device
As far as the Lumia 850 is concerned, the version pictured here shows the device running what seems to be an old version of Windows 10 Mobile - living proof is the Project Spartan icon that’s pinned to Start (Project Spartan was the original name used by Microsoft for Edge browser and implemented in the first builds of Windows 10 Mobile released to insiders).
Not much can be said about the device from these photos, but this is less important right now, given the fact that Microsoft has already canceled this model, and it has no plans to ever bring it back to production.
In terms of hardware, the Honjo wasn’t quite the most exciting Windows 10 Mobile device, and it’s probably one of the reasons the company decided to get rid of it even before its launch. The phone was equipped with a 5-inch 720p screen with a Snapdragon 210 processor, so it was more of a low-end device specifically supposed to help gain market share, and not to appeal to those looking for a high-end model.
