October 21, 2015 was Back to the Future Day, the day Marty McFly set on his time-travel machine in the second “Back to the Future” film to save his children and change some of the events that happened in the first film, released 3 years prior, in 1985.
Yesterday, our present became that generation’s future, and the Internet had a blast looking at the stuff the movie predicted we would have in 2015. As that happened, on the list of things we still didn’t have, which included the hoverboard and flying cars, was the self-lacing Nike Mag shoe.
Well, as of 2016, we can count on them: Nike has presented Michael J. Fox, who played McFly in the films, with the first-ever pair of Nike Mags that include a technology that allows the shoe to adapt itself to the foot and the needs of the wearer. Just like in the movie.
The original self-lacing shoe, shown in the film, was also created by Nike. Today, this gives the company the chance to boast, “by imagining the future, we create it.”
While Fox already has a pair, we will have to wait until spring 2016 for more items to become available. Then too, only those with deep pockets will probably be able to score a pair because “the 2015 Nike Mag is a limited edition release; it will only be available via auction, with all proceeds going to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.”
This is Nike giving something to the movie fans and to research, quite an admirable thing.
