Chris Rock, the official Oscars 2016 host, makes joke about Lamar Odom's near-fatal overdose

The other day, Chris Rock confirmed that he would be back as Oscars host for the 2016 edition of the gala, which will be held in February 2016. Today, he’s back in the headlines for taking Lamar Odom’s health crisis and turning it into a joke.

Lamar Odom is an ex-NBA star and, until this week, the estranged husband of reality star Khloe Kardashian. He overdosed on a combination of drugs last week, in a Nevada brothel, spent days in a coma “fighting for his life,” and is now in a hospital in Los Angeles, improving but still not out of the woods.

The next day after Khloe had him transferred from Las Vegas to LA, a judge threw out their old divorce case, as they asked in a joint petition. Rumors claimed that he had promised Khloe he wouldn’t touch drugs again, having learned his lesson, and she agreed to give him another chance based on this.

As Rock sees it, this is the first time coke and call girls actually save a marriage, which is actually painfully accurate: had it not been for Lamar’s 5-day binge with random girls whose company he paid for, he would have never reconciled with Khloe, which had been his wish since December 2013, when she filed for divorce.

Some might question Rock’s timing in making this joke, as accurate as it might be. He seems to have anticipated that, including the caption “Stay strong Lamar” with the photo.

So, do you think the joke is funny, or is it too soon for it? Let me know in the comments below.
