The game will remain an Epic Store exclusive

Phoenix Point is quite a mess when it comes to where you can buy the game from and on what platforms. After promising the game will be launched on Steam during its crowdfunding campaign on Steam, developer Snapshots Games decided to go for an Epic Store exclusivity.

But that's not all that Julian Gollop's studio promised before the game's release. Snapshots Games revealed plans to launch Phoenix Point on Xbox Game Pass for PC and the Windows Store at the same time the game goes live on the Epic Store.

Of course, that didn't happen and Snapshots Games says it “dropped the ball” when it said the game will come to Microsoft Xbox Game Pass. The studio posted a message on its forum in response to those wondering what happened with the Xbox Game Pass release.

We know that some of you are waiting for our release on Microsoft Xbox Game Pass for PC and the Microsoft Windows Store. We want to update you on the status of that. The fact is we dropped the ball. We were exceedingly busy getting the game itself ready and being inexperienced with Game Pass and the Microsoft Store, we simply had not properly prepared the groundwork to get the game released on time on these platforms. Compared to other platforms we’re on these platforms require a number of pre-requisites, from Microsoft certification to legal documentation review. While these are now mostly complete, they have given rise to a number of new delays.

Specifically, we are currently unable to make the same content available on Microsoft’s platform that is available to players on other platforms. Since we want to make sure all players have access to all versions of Phoenix Point regardless of where they choose to play, we need to get this working before we can release.”

The developer said that it hoped Xbox Game Pass players would already be able to play Phoenix Point, but it now seems that there will be further delays. At the moment, Snapshots Games doesn't have an ETA for Phoenix Point on Game Pass or the Windows Store, but the studio claims it's working as hard and as quickly as possible with partners at Microsoft to address all issues.
