Developers said that no microtransactions would be added

Payday 2 is a cooperative FPS developed by a studio named Overkill Software, and its publisher is 505 Games. The latest microtransactions that have been added to the gameplay are causing quite a stir in the community, not to mention the fact that the ability to build mods has been killed.

Payday 2 has become one of the most played multiplayer games on Steam and the community really loves it, but that's probably going to change. One of the things that appealed most to gamers was the lack of microtransactions. It's true that the game has 36 DLCs, but that hasn't affected the way players were enjoying it.

Microtransactions for items that don't affect the gameplay in any way are not a problem, and it would have been fine to have them, but the new Blackmarket brings weapons that have increased damage, better skins with improved stats and so on. All of these are obtained with drops that are unlocked with keys that can be bought.

Overkill developers are doing worse things

If microtransactions weren't enough, the developers or representatives from the publisher have started to delete topics on the forums and to censor people who were complaining. User Swervz on Reddit has compiled pretty much everything that he found on the matter, including a very interesting statement from lead designer David Goldfarb, made to Gamespot.

He was asked about adding microtransactions for Payday 2, and his answer was pretty clear: "No. No. God, I hope not. Never. No."

Moreover, members of the community are also reporting that some of the stock weapons have been nerfed, thus increasing the differences between paid content and free content.

It looks like either Overkill Software or 505 Games (or both) are trying to really milk this game for all it's worth, but they might just as well kill it right now. This is not the kind of thing that you can pull after you’ve spent two years building a community unless that was the plan all along.
