Nearly 65,000 votes on UserVoice, thousands in Feedback app

Microsoft has recently announced its decision to reduce OneDrive free storage from 15 GB to just 5 GB and to remove the unlimited space option for Office 365 customers, but since then, almost the whole world has blasted the company for this sudden change of strategy.

Everyone online is outraged at Microsoft going in the opposite direction approximately one year after pledging to offer the biggest amount of storage to both free and paying customers, but the response has so far been overwhelming.

The UserVoice post is living proof. Published on November 3, the submission called “Give us back our storage” has so far received nearly 65,000 votes, which makes it the most successful post so far. More than 3,600 comments have been submitted by users who are not only disappointed but also outraged at Microsoft’s decision to cut down OneDrive storage.

“I've 3 Windows devices (2 mobiles, 1 tablet). It won't be any other for me if you do not change your mind regarding OneDrive cloud space. Of course, I would not recommend Windows Phone anymore,” one angry OneDrive user writes.

Windows 10 Feedback app

The same happens with the Windows 10 Feedback app. The front page is filled with complaints received from users who don’t want to see their OneDrive storage go away, with the total number of votes exceeding a couple of thousands.

The change.org petition that went live last week currently has nearly 6,500 supporters, which once again shows that Microsoft isn’t planning the right thing for OneDrive.

The company said that an announcement would follow in early 2016, but given this community response, expect Microsoft to at least reconsider the OneDrive storage cut. Redmond says it’s all in on working together with users to improve its services, so this is clearly a critical moment where Microsoft needs to play its cards right if it wants to be successful in the long term.
