Maybe Blizzard will take pity and allow us to play forever

Overwatch Archives: Retribution, a new PvE event, is finally live, offering more some details about some of the characters, skins, emotes, and much more.

Last year’s PvE event was called Uprising, and performed incredibly well, despite the fact that it was a time-limited event. It’s was also vastly different from the core gameplay of Overwatch, which probably added to its appeal.

Now, Blizzard has returned with another PvE event, and it looks like the community is ready to embrace it. But don’t get too comfortable because it’s also time limited, although there is nothing to stop Blizzard from offering a new type of PvE experience in the futures.

Inspired by Left 4 Dead

Developers from Blizzard are also gamers, and it seems that they really liked the Left 4 Dead series. They drew inspiration from it, which means that some of the mechanics will be familiar. The new Retribution campaign is also different from Uprising, as it has a more direct approach, and it’s based on the idea of survival and not progression.

It also means that an entire co-op mode is available as well, based on Genji, Moira, McCree, or Reyes, who are racing through the streets of Venice.

“This year, you can take command of the agents of Blackwatch and face off against Talon in an exciting new mission, Retribution. You’ll also get a second chance to stop an omnic insurrection as last year’s Uprising mission returns for a rematch. Looking for more of a challenge? Dial up the difficulty and earn additional achievement rewards.”

As you can imagine, Archives Loot Boxes will be made available when you play it, and they include new cosmetic skins, highlight intros, emotes, and sprays based on moments from Overwatch’s past. Furthermore, if players don’t want to go through the campaign to get those loot boxes, they can buy them from the store, but only until April 30.

To celebrate the release of Retribution, Blizzard also put forth a comic book, which will fill in even more backstory for the entire Overwatch universe. You can download it for free and read it while waiting around in the lobby.

More changes

Of course, the release of Retribution also arrived with a ton of changes and fixes. The most important one is the “Avoid as Teammate” option. The details about that new option were covered in an earlier article.

A few of the characters were received some balancing modifications, and a slew of fixes were implemented as well. You can read the entire changelog below if you have the time and the patience.

Overwatch Archives: Retribution is available for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
