Microsoft has recently unveiled the new Surface Duo 2, but as far as the original model is concerned, there’s one big question that the company is yet to answer.

When is Android 11, the highly anticipated software update, is supposed to be released for the Surface Duo?

Initially projected to launch in 2021, Android 11 is still nowhere to be seen for the Surface Duo, and with a new model already on the market, many are concerned that it could take longer for the company to ship this operating system update.

But the good news is Android 11 is still on its way to the original Duo, with the company telling The Verge in a statement that the release should still happen by the end of the year.

In other words, yes, the Android 11 update for the Surface Duo is coming, and it wouldn’t take longer than a few months for the first devices to receive it.

Of course, this doesn’t change the fact the Surface Duo is still on Android 10 when Google is getting ready to launch Android 12. At the same time, the Surface Duo 2 is projected to launch with Android 11 out of the box, so it’ll be interesting to see how fast the new model gets Android 12.

The Surface Duo 2

In the meantime, Microsoft says the Surface Duo 2 is exactly what a modern device is supposed to be.

“Surface Duo 2 is much more than a phone. From the integration with Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Teams, to entertainment scenarios like TikTok, Kindle and gaming, Duo 2 enables countless app pairings and unmatched multitasking capabilities. Use any two Android apps simultaneously and check out new app experiences tuned for dual screen, like Gameloft’s Asphalt 9: Legends,” it says.

The Surface Duo 2 starts at $1499.99 in the United States, and it is available in two colors called Glacier and Obsidian.
