Oppo is a well-known Chinese handset maker that took some strange marketing decisions in the last couple of months. The company launched multiple mid-range and high-end smartphones, but most of the them have been overpriced for unknown reasons.

Considering that some of these devices have been released in India where competition on the smartphone market is fierce, Oppo's pricing doesn't really makes sense. The same goes with the latest addition to its portfolio of low-end smartphones, the Joy 3.

Oppo India has just announced the Joy 3 will be available for purchase in major retailers across the country beginning this week.

According to a new report, customers will be able to grab this affordable Android smartphone for Rs 7,990, which is about $125 or €115.

“OPPO Joy 3 is a successor of Joy Plus which combines appearance, fine camera quality at an affordable price. The device offers endless possibilities and enjoyment to the consumers both in rural and urban India.

“Indian market is our top most priority and we want to launch models across categories which combine style, technology and design.” said Mr. Tom Lu, CEO, OPPO Mobiles India.

KitKat and 4GB storage is not enough

Moving on to specs, it's worth mentioning that Oppo Joy 3 ships with Android 4.4 KitKat operating system right out of the box and there's no chance that the Chinese company will upgrade it to Lollipop in the future.

Hardware-wise, the smartphone is equipped with a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6582 processor, a Mali-400 MP2 graphics processing unit and 1GB of RAM. There are only 4GB of storage inside, but users can further expand storage up to 32GB via microSD card slot.

On the back, Oppo Joy 3 packs a 5-megapixel photo snapper with autofocus, LED flash and video recording, while in the front there's a secondary 2-megapixel camera.

Oppo's entry-level smartphones sports a 4.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports FWVGA (854 x 480 pixels) resolution.

Last but not least, the Joy 3 comes with dual-SIM and 3G support, as well as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS with AGPS and 2,000 mAh battery.
