This improvement will improve the application's security when you use open Wi-Fi hotspots at places like coffee shops, train stations, etc.
Thanks to the SSL encryption for the SPDY tunnel, the data connection between the phone and the application's data-saving servers will be safe.
Also, the latest update further reduces data usage when accessing websites and social networks with image-rich content, such as Flipboard or Instagram, as well as YouTube and other video and music streaming apps and services.

With the latest version of Opera Max, developers promise a lighter Wi-Fi footprint, so users can browse through free, public Wi-Fi hotspots faster and more secure.
Thanks to the new SPDY implementation in Opera Max, which is already available in Chrome from Android, the application can bring a 23% improvement in speed over mobile networks.
Opera Max is the first mobile app developed by Opera Software that receives this upgrade, but the team hopes to include SPDY to many more apps in the future.
