Opera Software has just announced that another major feature is now available for its Opera Max application for Android devices.

One month after the addition of video savings for YouTube and Netflix apps, Opera Max users will now consume less mobile data while listening to their favorite streaming music apps.

The latest version of Opera Max comes with better optimization on music and video streaming applications, thus reducing data usage.

For those unfamiliar with Opera Max, this is a data-management and data-saving application for Android phone, which is supposed to cut the user's mobile data bills.

According to developers, the new update for Opera Max provides data saving on music apps including YouTube Music, Pandora, Slacker Radio, Gaana and Saavn. This means users of these apps can enjoy data savings of up to 50% with Opera Max.

“More and more people love listening to their favorite music with apps; however, these apps are among the major data hogs consuming users’ mobile data quickly.

“Now, we have added audio compression for these music apps so that people will feel free to stream music without having to look constantly for available, free Wi-Fi coverage. This is particularly helpful for users with limited data plans,” says Sergey Lossev, product manager at Opera Software.

Keep in mind that Opera Max uses streaming audio optimization powered by Rocket Optimizer so that the streaming audio traffic can be managed in the same way as video traffic.

Also, it's worth mentioning that Opera Max supports both MP3 and MP4 stream formats, and it can also convert streams to the more efficient AAC+ codec.

Last but not least, developers state that Opera Max does not analyze or store private data and that savings are based on sampling of US beta users.

You can now download Opera Max for Android for free via Google Play Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Android 4.0 and up.
