While the world is all about Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Mozilla Firefox, Opera continues to be one of the most solid choices in the browser market.

And the company’s latest update is just living proof in this regard.

Opera browser is getting a so-called Lucid Mode, which is essentially a new feature that helps make old and blurry videos look much better, especially on high-res screens.

Lucid Mode is essentially a sharpening feature that works by applying a filter on the video and images displayed on websites. In other words, if you’re trying to watch an old video on YouTube, Opera should automatically enhance the image quality by sharpening the content in such a way that everything looks crisper.

“The feature is available for all videos on, for example, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter and can be enabled with a single click of the magical floating button! When activated, Lucid Mode adds a sparkle of sharpness and clarity to your content, allowing you to enjoy it in comfort and relaxation. It’s also available for images and can be activated in the Easy Setup. Don’t let the hassle and stress of poor quality get in the way of your viewing experience,” Opera explains.

Needless to say, given the new feature uses GPU acceleration, you could also notice a performance impact when Lucid Mode is running, though this also depends on the specifications of your computer.

“Lucid Mode is a CSS sharpening filter applied to video and / or image elements on webpages. On most systems the filters are GPU accelerated. You can turn on Lucid Mode in the usual places: Easy Setup and opera://settings. You will be also able to change this setting in-context while watching a video. For that purpose we introduced a button next to the video pop-out button which serves to change the global Lucid Mode for Videos setting,” Opera says.

Lucid Mode is already available in the latest version of the browser on the desktop.
