14 DAY TRIAL // Opera has just announced that two of its Android applications have been updated with important new features and improvements.
Opera Browser and Opera Mini have had some of their major features enhanced with additional options and performance improvements.
But first of all, it's worth mentioning that you'll be seeing a new logo on both Opera and Opera Mini browsers for Android devices. Developers have decided that it's time for a change and introduced new icons for both applications.
One of the most important improvements included in the latest version of Opera for Android browser is video compression. Since watching videos online can be a problem for those with low data plans, the folks over at Opera Software have decided to do something for those users.
The new Video compression feature can be enabled from the settings menu where you must tap the Data savings option. Once activated, Opera will do all the rest, so you will use less data while spending less time waiting for your videos to load.
Developers also confirmed they have added some more advanced settings in the menu for those who have more specific preferences, so they will now be able to control their browsing experience much easier. Lots of bug fixes have been provided in the update, too.
Notifications and tab switching improvements
Opera Mini received some new features as well. For example, users will now be able to take advantage of the new Download notifications option, which tells them when their files are finished downloading.
Some improvements to tab switching have also been implemented. When you open a new tab while you continue to read the page you are on, it will now open in the background with the option to quickly switch between them.
Users will also notice that Facebook notifications now include profile pictures and that context menus on pages now look more like other Android apps.
