The openSUSE Project, through Douglas DeMaio, has sent an interesting email to the official openSUSE Announce mailing list, informing us all about the work done so far for the Tumbleweed and Leap versions of the openSUSE Linux operating system.

According to Mr. DeMaio, the OpenSuSE developers have managed to fix various bugs reported by users, as well as to upgrade over 60 packages, which have been pushed into the latest snapshot of openSUSE Tumbleweed, which now includes Linux kernel 4.1.3, Claws Mail 3.12.0, LibreOffice 5.0, Digikam 4.11.0, Gcal 4, and much more.

Another interesting thing mentioned in Mr. DeMaio’s report is the date of November 4, when the final release of openSUSE Leap 42 might be unveiled, as well as September 20, 2015, when the openSUSE developers will attempt to apply the Feature Freeze for the things that will land in the upcoming Beta build of the openSUSE Leap 42 operating system.

"A few takeaway items you might all be interested in regarding Leap," says Douglas DeMaio. "The roadmap for Leap will likely be published next week. It looks like the release of Leap will be on Nov. 4 at 14:00 UTC, but some other things need to happen before we confirm Nov. 4 officially as the release date."

Developers are urged to submit Plymouth and GRUB artwork via GitHub

At the end of the email sent by Douglas DeMaio, openSUSE developers are urged to submit artwork for the openSUSE Leap 42's Plymouth boot splash screen and GRUB bootloader software through the project's GitHub page by cloning the Leap-42.1 branch in openSUSE branding.

Additionally, a GitHub branch for openSUSE Tumbleweed, the rolling-release version of the openSUSE Linux operating system, has been published as well, so if you want to contribute to it and enhance its visual appearance, you can do so right now. We will inform you of further developments as soon as we have more information.
