Stats show that 49.6 percent of devices are left behind

Last week when Microsoft officially started the Windows 10 Mobile rollout for Windows Phone devices, the company took everyone by surprise as it left behind plenty of handsets that were initially supposed to get the upgrade to the new operating system.

And now statistics provided by AdDuplex reveal that no less than 49.6 percent of the devices running Windows Phone won’t get the upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile, and this leaves us with just 50.4 percent of models that are eligible for the switch to the new OS.

Furthermore, the new data shows that 15.2 percent of the devices that can be upgraded to Windows 10 Mobile are already running this OS version, but it goes without saying that some are still part of the insider program.

Windows 10 Mobile is currently at 7.7 percent (out of the total Windows market share in mobile) while Windows Phone 8.1 is still king with 81.1 percent. Obviously, it takes a while until Windows 10 Mobile adoption improves because the new OS has only one week on the market and some of the eligible devices haven’t yet received the upgrade.

Lumia 520 still top Windows phone out there

Unfortunately for Microsoft, the top Windows phone device worldwide continues to be the Lumia 520, which isn’t getting the Windows 10 Mobile upgrade because it has just 512 MB of RAM. Figures, however, show that Lumia 535 is very likely to take over the first step very soon, as it’s close behind with 12 percent.

Lumia 640, which remains a very popular choice for Windows Phone users, has reached a share of 7.3 percent and given the fact that it’s one of the models supporting Windows 10 Mobile, it’s very likely to grow in the coming months too.

New devices such as Lumia 950 and 950 XL do not show up in the charts, and that kind of makes sense given the fact that they’re flagships and are rather expensive when compared to the rest of the lineup.
