One of the most appealing mid-range Android smartphones launched in the last couple of months, the OnePlus X, is available by invitation only.

In case you haven't known by now, here is how it works. In the first month after the smartphone's announcement, customers will be able to sign up to be placed on a reservation list. However, not everyone on that list will be offered an invitation to purchase the OnePlus X.

The good news is that the reservation list is not the only way to grab the smartphone, as OnePlus has confirmed that it will offer invitations through its social media promotions, or customers lucky enough could get one at the company's pop-up shops.

After the first month, invitations will be offered each week on a first come, first served basis, so if you're fast enough, you might get one.

It's also worth mentioning that those who purchase the OnePlus X will also receive an invitation that they can gift to one of their friends.

Both 2GB and 3GB models are up for grabs

According to OnePlus, the X will be available for purchase in Europe and India on November 5, while customers in the US will be able to grab one on November 19.

However, if you don't want to take chances with the reservation system, there's another way to purchase the OnePlus X without an invitation.

Chinese retailer GearBest has just opened pre-sales for the smartphone, so you can now grab the OnePlus X 3GB for just $295 outright.

On the other hand, the OnePlus X 2GB is available as well, but customers will only have to pay $280 in order to get one.

The retailer also mentions that pre-sale should end on November 28, so you might have to wait a while until you get your OnePlus X. Also, shipping is free anywhere in the world.
