Chinese company OnePlus has just made a surprising announcement revealing the OnePlus 2's launch date, but also how it will be done.

OnePlus 2 won't be unveiled the usual way at a launch event, instead the Chinese OEM announced that its flagship killer will be world's first product launch in VR.

“In our industry, product launches tend to be the same. An auditorium, a keynote, and a seated audience. For the OnePlus 2 launch, we didn’t want that barrier between us and you; we want to invite you into our world, because you’re a major part of it,” explains OnePlus.

This means that beginning July 27 at 7PM, everyone around the world can stream OnePlus 2's launch event. The announcement reveals OnePlus' “secret” launch project, which was teased earlier this month, when the company asked fans to create videos of their OnePlus stories and best smartphone photography.

Fans will help OnePlus present its next flagship smartphone

According to OnePlus, those fans that won the contests will help the Chinese company present the while launch of the OnePlus 2 in virtual reality.

“A VR launch lets you stand right next to our team and our fans as we unveil our new flagship. You’ll be able to look around as you check out the phone in a new way and maybe even find a few hidden Easter eggs. It’s a new way of thinking about a product launch. We aren’t talking at you; we are talking with you,” said OnePlus in a blog post.

OnePlus 2 will be another high-end smartphone powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, despite having overheating issues that still affect smartphones like Sony Xperia Z3+ and HTC One M9.

We also know the upcoming smartphone will be packed with USB Type C port, but other than that no other details on the OnePlus 2's specs sheet have been revealed yet.
