The M1 support has finally been added for all users

Microsoft has just announced that OneDrive sync now features full support for Apple Silicon, which means the app now runs natively on M1-powered computers.

The new feature is available starting with build 22.022, and as most users know already, it’s been in testing for quite some time.

Ever since Apple announced Apple Silicon, Microsoft has been working around the clock on updating its software to run natively on M1 devices. And of course, the company has gradually updated its software to take advantage of this new chip, and today, it’s the turn of OneDrive sync to feel at home on Apple Silicon.

“We’re excited to announce that OneDrive sync for macOS will now run natively on Apple silicon. This means that OneDrive will take full advantage of the performance improvements of Apple silicon. We know this has been a long-awaited and highly requested feature, and we're delighted to make it generally available starting with build 22.022,” the company said.

Update OneDrive sync to the latest version

The Redmond-based software giant has also announced that Folder Backup (Known Folder Move) is now available on macOS devices in Public Preview.

“This implies that people using OneDrive on macOS Monterey 12 will be able to move their Desktop and Document folders to OneDrive.  We have Users can continue accessing folders they’re familiar with to do their daily work and be assured that their data is backed up and secure,” the company said.

“Folder Backup (Known Folder Move) will also enable macOS users to access their most important files across different devices and applications with no disruption to productivity, because their content is automatically synced to OneDrive. In addition, users will be able to securely share their data within and outside their organization, increasing collaboration.”
