Microsoft working on Sustainability section in Windows 11

Microsoft is working on all kinds of improvements for Windows 11, and most recently, it’s been discovered the company is planning a Sustainability section in the Settings app.

Of course, it’s not exactly difficult to figure out the purpose of this new feature.

Just like its name suggests, the Sustainability section will be there to help users optimize the energy consumption and provide additional information on recycling the device.

A screenshot posted on Twitter by @thebookisclosed provides us with an early look at this new Settings app, therefore revealing that Microsoft will add a new eco recommendation to help the device save energy. There’s also a menu for advanced eco recommendations to “review potentially higher user impact settings to find additional ways to save energy.”

No release date just yet

As Microsoft announced recently, the company is working on all kinds of new features for Windows 11, though this doesn’t necessarily mean it already has a release date in mind.

The same for the new Sustainability section. At this point, the work on this feature is still in its early days, and nobody knows for sure when it’s supposed to go live.

Microsoft also says that some of the ideas it’s experimenting with may never get the go-ahead if something doesn’t go as planned.

“Features and experiences from these builds could show up in future Windows releases when they’re ready. In some cases, these concepts will never ship, but by experimenting more, we can better refine experiences, and deliver solutions in Windows that truly empower our customers to achieve more,” the company said recently.

Microsoft is planning to release a major Windows 11 update later this month, and one of the highlights is a public preview of Android app support on the desktop. Furthermore, Microsoft will include taskbar refinements and other refinements that would improve the experience with Windows 11 overall.
