The situation continues to worsen after Samsung announced a second recall of the Galaxy Note 7, without actually mentioning the word recall. All sales and exchanges of the Note 7 have been stopped, while owners are requested to power down their smartphones and get a refund.

To avoid any other incidents, Oculus has remotely disabled access for Galaxy Note 7 smartphones to its Oculus platform, according to a post on Reddit. The smartphone is no longer compatible with the Gear VR, and users can’t access any content on the platform.

The Redditor mentioned that when he connected the Note 7 to the Gear VR, a message was displayed on the screen saying that access has been disabled for all Note 7 smartphones because of safety concerns. The message mentions that until further notice is provided, the Note 7 is disabled from the Oculus platform.

Oculus warned against use of Note 7 with Gear VR last month

There haven’t been any incidents in which the Galaxy Note 7 caught fire while being used with the Gear VR, but the risks are quite high. While paired with the Gear VR, the smartphone could potentially heat up and cause harm to the user.

Before Samsung and the CPSC officially announced the first recall of the Galaxy Note 7 last month, Oculus did warn consumers against using the Galaxy Note 7 together with the Gear VR. It seems that this time around, the company decided to disable access for the smartphone altogether.

Samsung is facing a second recall of the Galaxy Note 7, as owners are expected to power down their devices immediately and replace them with a Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 edge or request a full refund. The company admits that there might still be a problem with the battery, but is awaiting the official results of the CPSC investigation before actually pronouncing the word recall.
