The new driver from Nvidia doesn't fix anything

Nvidia is preparing for the rise of VR in our lives and has released a new driver that should help improve the performance for upcoming VR headsets.

VR or virtual reality is a technology that sounds really good in theory but has very few applications in the real world, at least at this stage. It's sort of like 3D, which is marginally good, used only for the sake of it, and with no really gain for the viewers.

You might think that gaming is the perfect avenue for Virtual Reality, but the truth is that we're far from a proper implementation and from spending entire afternoons playing games with a huge pair device strapped to the head.

On the other hand, progress needs to make, and it's done in small steps. The technology might look clumsy right now, but who knows? Maybe we will be able to use it properly in the near future.

Nvidia needs to be prepared

A number of VR solutions are being prepared and are going to ship in the coming months, from HTC or Oculus. Some of these are already available for developers, so a new Nvidia driver has been released.

"NVIDIA continues to work closely with VR headset and game developers to deliver amazing VR games and applications. This Game Ready driver includes the latest GameWorks VR tweaks, bug fixes, and optimizations to ensure you have the ultimate VR gaming experience," reads the release notes for the Nvidia 361.43 GeForce Game Ready Driver.

If you have Geforce Experience installed, you will already have a notification for it since this is also a WHQL release. From the looks it, all the Nvidia products starting with GeForce GT 420 are supported, so quite a lot of people will be able to use VR. No other changes or fixes have been introduced with this new driver, so you can also skip it.
