New drivers, new problems for NVIDIA card owners

NVIDIA shipped new graphics drivers a few days ago, but just like it happened recently with version 375.57, users are again reporting issues with system performance and gaming experience.

NVIDIA’s GeForce drivers version 375.86 are specifically aimed at improving games on Windows systems, bringing optimizations for specific titles, such as Battlefield 1, Civilization VI, and Tom Clancy's The Division Survival DLC.

But according to reports, the new driver pack does exactly the opposite, as users are now complaining about screen flickering in games and performance problems with driver memory which gets locked at 810 MHz.

gHacks notes that one of the common issues reported after installing the new drivers leads to low frame rates in some games that were running perfectly fine before NVIDIA shipped the new drivers, so the only option to repair it is to roll back to the previous version of the graphics drivers.

“I have a GTX 1080 from Gainward with a 6700k. My GPU memory clock is locked at 810 mhz, permanently. Even Indie titles struggles to get a playable framerate. I'd recommend holding off on this driver for now,” one user reported on NVIDIA’s support forums.

Older versions working correctly

NVIDIA is already investigating the problem and is asking users to send feedback should they experience problems with the latest drivers, but it’s not yet clear when exactly a new driver update could be released.

Obviously, if you haven’t installed the latest drivers just yet, it’s better to postpone it for a little longer, especially because nothing guarantees that everything would go smoothly in your case. Judging from how many users are complaining of issues with these drivers, a patch should be provided as soon as possible, but it's not yet known if NVIDIA knows what went wrong and how fast it can fix it.

For what it’s worth, NVIDIA 375.70 (and the 375.76 hotfix) worked correctly for the majority of users, so you might want to try out these versions if you’re experiencing issues with the latest release.
