Valve data shows Windows 10 keeps growing

New data provided by Valve’s PC gaming Steam reveals that Windows 10 not only that is the number one choice for gamers, but it also keeps growing every month.

And in July, Windows 10 managed to beat its own record on Steam, growing 3.73% and thus reaching a Steam share of 71.57% for the 64-bit version.

This is obviously enough to secure the leading spot, as runner-up Windows 7 64-bit is very far behind with just 20.40% and declining 3.03%. Windows 8.1 64-bit rounds up the top three with 2.72& and a 0.20% decline.

Overall, the 64-bit versions of Windows 10 and Windows 7 continue to lead the pack on Steam, albeit the trend seems to indicate that most gamers move to the first and give up on the latter as the end of support date is approach.

Windows 7 will exit support in January 2020, so no security patches and other updates would be shipped beyond this date.

Non-Windows “gaming” platforms

On the other hand, the data provided by Valve also shows that 32-bit versions of Windows are slowly but surely being left behind, as both Windows 7 and Windows 10 declined last month. Only 0.19% of the devices connected to Steam run the 32-bit version of Windows 10, Valve says.

As far as non-Windows platforms are concerned, things haven’t changed much here.

Apple’s macOS currently has a share of 2.93%, down 0.33% from the previous month, and version 10.14.5 is the top version with 1.37% share and a 1.19% growth in July.

Linux is still far from becoming a gaming platform, and the stats pretty much speak for themselves. This platform powers only 0.79% of the computers running Steam, and this is down 0.05% from June, which means that Linux more or less stagnates in terms of gaming.
