Samsung’s obsession for Apple continues with Jobs reference

Samsung is one of the companies that have often tried to mock Apple and make a big deal out of Cupertino’s questionable decisions, including the removal of the headphone jack on the iPhone 7 and the introduction of the notch on the iPhone X.

In both cases, the South Korean company ended up embracing both changes, with a notch eventually making its way to several Samsung devices, while the headphone jack was removed from several devices it sells across the world.

Most recently, Samsung copied another controversial Apple change, giving up on the charger in the box of new high-end models, just like its rival did when it introduced the iPhone 12.

Samsung’s Apple obsession continued recently, though the whole thing happened with really, really awful reference to Steve Jobs, the tech visionary who left us way too soon.

“A turtleneck wearer”

In a post on the company’s iTest page, which is supposed to allow iPhone users to try out a Samsung Galaxy phone by emulating the Android interface in a browser, the South Korean phone maker calls Steve Jobs a “turtleneck wearer” in the description of one of its themes.

“Samsung users are all unique and they like their phones to be unique too. No turtleneck wearer should dictate how your phone looks,” the description of a theme published in the Galaxy App Store reads. The theme is published by Samsung’s official account.

Without a doubt, this is just awful marketing, and while mocking competitors and making fun of their controversial products is something that often makes sense, not the same thing can be said about a reference to someone who’s no longer with us.

Samsung will most likely remove the theme description from its Galaxy emulator, but without a doubt, it’ll be interesting to see how the company defends this really poor attempt to mock its rival.
