Nokia’s transformation continues, and as the company is preparing to begin a new era of mobile evolution, it’s unveiling a new logo that prepares it for next-generation technology.

Announced at MWC, Nokia’s new logo is a lot more modern than the iconic design the company has been using for decades.

It represents the transition from smartphones to what Nokia’s CEO describes as a “business technology company.”

Nokia is indeed trying to expand on multiple fronts, and while its mobile focus is now on Android devices, the company is also investing in equipment aimed at business partners.

As part of its long-term strategy, Nokia is also bringing device manufacturing to Europe, with the operations scheduled to begin as soon as this year.

“In a move to further strengthen its security promises, HMD Global takes the first steps in a journey to become the first major global smartphone provider to bring manufacturing to Europe. In the first stage of this journey, the company is developing capabilities and processes to bring 5G Nokia device production to Europe in 2023. These new developments are a continuation of HMD Global’s commitment to conducting secure and transparent operations in Europe,” Nokia’s parent company announced at MWC.

Nokia is truly a survivor. Its mobile unit has gone through difficult moments in the last decade, especially under the ownership of Microsoft.

The software giant took over Nokia’s mobile business specifically to become an important player on this side of the market. However, the software giant eventually decided to give up on both the operating system and mobile hardware, with many industry analysts expecting Nokia to bite the dust.

The company survived with the help of HMD Global, and now its ambitions are not only to become a more important player in the mobile business but also to increase the market share on other fronts, including in the 5G equipment push in Europe.
