The mystery smartphone that may never come

Finnish company Nokia, once the absolute ruler of mobile phone market, confirmed earlier this year that it would return to the smartphone market at the end of 2016.

Until then, Nokia will search for a partner that will help with manufacturing, distribution and marketing of its devices.

The former handset maker doesn't want to risk anything by investing again in all that is necessary for a smooth product launch.

According to Nokia, the agreement with Microsoft doesn't allow it to release new smartphones or mobile phones until late 2016.

However, this doesn't mean that we can't get information on unannounced Nokia products that might or might not be released on the market at some point.

Word about Nokia's first smartphone leaked earlier this year when a render of a device called C1 popped up online. Today, the same device was spotted by the folks over at NPU, but this time we have two versions of the Nokia C1 in the picture.

Isn't it too early to talk about specs?

The Android variant runs Nokia's Z Launcher application while the other Nokia C1 model is powered by Windows 10 Mobile.

We doubt that the Finnish company will want to launch a Windows 10 Mobile handset next year or in early 2017, especially that we're talking about Nokia's first smartphone is a very long time.

The render leaked online doesn't come with any information regarding Nokia C1's specs, so we're still in the dark here.

Still, it would have been too early for a specs list to leak along with the Nokia C1 render, since the smartphone won't be announced for another year or so.

The Finnish company has several months to decide what hardware its upcoming Android smartphone will pack and what it will look like.
