Users now instructed to switch to website

The decline of Windows 10 Mobile started a couple of years ago, so most developers gave up on their apps on this platform, choosing instead to focus on the operating systems that make sense in the long term.

This is actually one of the reasons the market share of Microsoft’s mobile operating system fell at such a fast pace, as many users switch to Android and iOS due to the lack of app support on Windows phones.

Today, another app is preparing to wave goodbye to Windows phones, as Instagram is now alerting users that the official client would be discontinued on April 30.

When launching Instagram on a Windows phone, the app displays a warning revealing that Instagram would stop working on Microsoft’s mobile platform in late April. At the same time, users are recommended to switch to the official browser, which provides similar functionality on a mobile device, obviously without the typical features like notifications and live tile support.

Windows 10 Mobile going dark

While such news might be disappointing for users still running Windows Phone or Windows 10 Mobile one their devices, it was something to be expected given the current state of the mobile platform.

Microsoft will retire the mobile operating system later this year, and the software giant itself recommends users to switch to Android or iOS. In fact, the company is investing aggressively in its apps on these two platforms, as it wants users making the switch to be provided with the full feature arsenal.

Needless to say, there are many other apps that will just stop working on Windows phones in the coming months as the end of support approaches, so sooner or later, everyone would have to make the switch. In case you’re wondering, the market share of Windows 10 Mobile is said to be somewhere around 0 percent, so not a lot of people are likely to be impacted.
