Microsoft says the release candidate just isn’t good enough

Microsoft has just confirmed that it wouldn’t release a new Windows 11 preview build this week, simply because its candidate isn’t good enough to be shipped to testers.

The company explains in a tweet that the quality of the release candidate isn’t high enough to make it a proper build for users of the Windows Insider program. So in other words, we just have to wait one more week until a new build gets the go-ahead, of course, if nothing bad happens in the meantime and the next release doesn’t end up hitting similar problems too.

This almost never happens, so in theory, the next Windows 11 preview should now land next week.

“Unfortunately, our build candidate this week didn't meet our quality bar for release so we don't have a new flight for #WindowsInsiders in the Dev Channel this week.  We hope to be back at it with a flight next week,” Microsoft explained.

Windows 11 feature update due this month

And while insiders aren’t getting a new preview build this week, users running the production build of Windows 11 have another reason to be excited about.

Microsoft will roll out the very first Windows 11 feature update later this month with substantial improvements, including new taskbar options and other refinements.

“Next month we’re bringing new experiences to Windows that include a public preview of how you can use Android apps on Windows 11 through the Microsoft Store and our partnerships with Amazon and Intel, taskbar improvements with call mute and unmute, easier window sharing and bringing weather to the taskbar, plus the introduction of two new redesigned apps, Notepad and Media Player,” Microsoft said last month when it announced the feature update.

At this point, there’s still no specific ETA when the feature update should go live.
