Apple to focus specifically on fixing bugs in iOS

The next iOS updates coming to users in the coming months won’t bring any new features, according to a report today, as Apple wants to focus exclusively on fixing bugs and optimizing the overall performance.

The Verifier claims that the latest beta build released to testers will be 13.4.x, which means the company isn’t planning to roll out iOS 13.5. At the time of writing, however, there’s obviously no confirmation, so it’s important to take everything with a pinch of salt for now.

But the more important tidbit is that the next iOS updates wouldn’t bring any new features, as Apple is only looking into further polishing the experience on iPhones and iPads by the time the next major iOS version lands.

iOS 14 preview at WWDC

In other words, the highly-anticipated iOS 14 is the next version to bring new features, so in the meantime, what we’re going to get is a bunch of security patches and bug fixes.

This makes sense given that Apple is directing most of its development work to iOS 14, which according to the original schedule, is supposed to go live in September for supported iPhones and iPads. Apple is expected to provide us with a demo of iOS 14 at WWDC in the summer – worth knowing is that the WWDC has already moved to a digital version due to the coronavirus outbreak.

At this point, however, nothing is certain, especially as further delays are possible due to the pandemic.

Apple is also planning to launch the new-generation iPhone in September, but people close to the matter already suggest that a delay is very likely, especially as the supply chain is forcing to deal with closed plants and workers who contracted the virus. Apple is also expected to take the wraps off the iPhone 9 sometime soon, possible in April.
