Minecraft developer Mojang and franchise owner Microsoft aren't even talking about a potential sequel, as the two companies want to keep updating the current game depending on the choices from players all around the world across all platforms.

Minecraft has been around for quite a few years now, sparking a huge amount of interest when it launched as an alpha PC game, and then going on to delight millions of other gamers across consoles and other platforms.

No Minecraft 2 plans, at least for now

While the biggest new release has just arrived in the form of the Minecraft Windows 10 edition beta, neither Mojang nor Microsoft is even considering a full-fledged Minecraft 2 sequel, as they both want to keep updating the current title with new features and user-requested enhancements.

According to Mojang CEO Jonas Martensson, who has talked with IGN at Gamescom 2015, while it's useless to rule out a Minecraft sequel, as it could happen at some point in time, right now the developer expects to keep on supporting the title for around 10 years. As such, for the foreseeable future, fans shouldn't expect a Minecraft 2.

What's more, Microsoft Games Studios General Manager Matt Booty also confirms that the large corporation has no plans to push for a sequel, instead using the constant update strategy seen with the Windows 10 operating system.

"There was never, even within Microsoft, a conversation about a Minecraft 2 just because it's never how the game has been developed and even in the philosophy that the company has taken with Windows 10 where this is something that gets updated often. The way to think about it is more to do with continual updates and a continual process," he explains.

As such, it seems that Minecraft fans should expect to see way more updates and improvements to the game in the future, instead of a full-fledged sequel.
