Gamers will be able to learn about their galaxy

The very ambitious No Man’s Sky might not feature a clearly designed single-player campaign, but the developers working on the game at Hello Games are saying that they are still planning to introduce a wide amount of lore that gamers will have to interact with regardless of the planets that they find and explore.

A new video from the studio explains that much of the information that the game offers about the universe and the aliens that players interact with is integrated into the environments that they explore, including buildings or other created structures.

Sean Murray, the leader of Hello Games, believes that the approach is different from what other video games provide but allows players to have a clearer sense of discovery while making sure that all the information they pick up feels organic to their surroundings.

Lore for No Man’s Sky was created by both Dave Gibbons, who worked on both Watchmen, 2000 AD, and Kingsman, and James Swallow, who is best known for Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Star Trek.

The two creators have also put together a comic called Adventures in No Man’s Sky, which will be offered to those who pick up the Limited Edition of the title.

The game is a triumph of procedurally generated content

Hello Games has created the galaxy, the solar systems, the planets, environments, the behavior of creatures and the spacefaring factions in No Man’s Sky using deterministic algorithms and random number generators, and all this accounts for the huge size of the universe they are including in the title.

Basically, the developers themselves do not know everything that their video game has to offer in terms of content, and it seems that, even if the universe is shared, there are so many planets that it is unlikely two players will be present on one at the same time.

No Man’s Sky will allow gamers to explore environments in a space ship, gathering information and resources to improve their hardware and get more details about the galaxy they are part of.

Hello Games is encouraging players to try and reach the center of the galaxy, which involves dealing with some automated defenses when they affect the ecosystems around them too much, and there are also interactions with aliens and other lore-driven moments.

No Man’s Sky will be launched on the PlayStation 4 from Sony and the PC and can be played on June 21 in the United States and one day later in Europe.
