Back in 2014 when Apple launched the iPhone 6, a prank that was posted online claimed that the device could be charged in the microwave oven, and it was only a matter of time until a bunch of people actually tried it. And obviously got their iPhones cooked, not charged.

And the same thing seems to be happening again with the iPhone 7, but this time for a totally different reason. A video posted online by YouTuber TechRax shows iPhone 7 buyers that they can actually get the headphone jack back by simply drilling a hole into the secondary speaker grille.

Although for some it’s very clear that it’s just a prank, a few people actually fell for it and really tried to drill a hole in their phones. Did it work? No. Do phones work anymore? Nope.

Some of the comments posted on YouTube already went viral and a number of those who tried drilling a hole in their iPhones are now threatening to sue the uploader. Obviously, such a lawsuit doesn’t stand a chance since this is the Internet, and insurance won’t clearly cover… let’s call it naivety.

“I’m going to sue!”

Here are some of the comments posted by those who claim they have drilled holes in their iPhones desperately looking for a headphone jack (note that they could very well be fake, but judging from the language used, there’s a big chance they’re not):

“Dude are you serious?! I just paid $800 dollars for this thing and now it turns on but the screen just had a few dots on it. I think my phone's dead! F**k my mom's going to be so pissed! I hope insurance covers this."

"I am a full time college student, I spend my savings on this phone!!! It flickers on and off and the speaker no longer works! I do not understand why you would f*****g trick me. My uncle is a lawyer I am suing to the full extent of the law."

"Thanks bro, I destroyed my iPhone 7, 700 dollars at trash thanks."

It goes without saying that you shouldn't try this by any means because no, you can't get the headphone jack unless you use an adapter. And while we're going to let you judge iPhone buyers who fell for this prank, it also shows that this clearly wasn't the right moment for Apple to drop the headphone jack. The world, or at least a part of it, simply doesn't seem to be ready for it.
