Despite the fact that Super Mario Run has been downloaded more than 5 million times in just 24 hours since its release in the App Store, Nintendo's shares dropped by 11%.

According to a new report, the main reason is the bad reviews that the game has received in the App Store, as many players complain the game is too expensive and that it requires persistent Internet connection.

Super Mario Run is exclusively available on the iOS platform and can be purchased for $10 (£8). However, the first three levels of the game are free to play, so customers can get a taste of what the game has to offer before purchasing it.

Even so, many players have said that these free levels can be finished quite quickly and they aren't representative enough to allow them to make an informed decision on whether or not to buy the game.

On top of that, all three Super Mario Run gameplay modes require Internet connection to be played, so when it areas where coverage is limited, players can't access the game.

Nintendo confirmed a few days before the game was released in the App Store that Super Mario Run would need an always-on internet connection for all modes, including the story mode.

According to developers, some elements in the story mode are used in the multiplayer modes, which is why Nintendo was not able to make it available offline.

As mentioned earlier, since the launch of Super Mario Run, Nintendo's shares dropped 11%, despite the fact that the game has topped charts for most profitable games in many countries.

Also, DeNA Co., the company that helped develop Super Mario Run, had seen its shares drop by 14% since the game's release. At the moment, Super Mario Run has been reviewed by many players in the App Store and sits at 2.5 stars out of 5.
