Nikon's Singapore branch was just served a big slice of humble pie after the Internet unleashed an army of trolls upon the company, following Nikon's decision to award first prize in a small contest to a blatantly Photoshopped image.
The image's author is Chay Yu Wei, who won a Nikon trolley bag, and Internet stardom. But that's not what got people amped up. It was the company's caption for his photo, which read:
"Yu Wei chanced upon a set of ladders while on a photo walk with his friends in Chinatown, and thought the view above would make an interesting perspective. Little did he expect to catch an airplane in mid-air. We’ll try looking up too, Yu Wei."
The airplane Nikon mentioned was an obvious clipart cutout that was copy-pasted in the center of Wei's photo, who didn't even bother blending it in with the rest of the photo's lighting, leaving a white square around the copy-pasted airplane.
As soon as people got wind of Nikon's gaffe, hilarity ensued with everyone submitting their own version of Wei's picture, with various silly objects blatantly copy-pasted in the middle.
Some were good, some were extremely bad, but most were terribly funny. The trolling got so bad that Nikon had to apologize a day later, apology which you can read below. We've also selected some of the funniest images and attached them to this article.
