Robin Thicke has a new album coming out this year and he hopes you’ve forgotten about the disaster that was his previous one, “Paula,” with which he aimed to woo estranged wife Paula Patton back. The new studio release will also be drawing on his post-split experience, but it will be a much subtler affair.

That much is also clear from the leading single off it, “Back Together,” a collaboration with rapper Nicki Minaj. It just got an official music video, which, as usual, you can see in full and in HD below.

The concept for it is simple and laden with retro touches. Robin and his lady love throw a couple of parties in Miami, where there’s dancing and drinking and the occasional prank of pushing people in the pool.

Nicki appears halfway in the video, wearing an outfit that emphasizes her generous curves and supposedly drives Robin insane. She also rejects him, for whatever reason.

A few days ago, Thicke appeared on ABC’s Good Morning America to speak about the new album and what inspired him on it, and he admitted that “Back Together” was born from his split from Paula.

“I just heard this idea of getting back together and getting yourself back together,” he said. “What I was going through at the time, I really related to that and connected with it. It’s more about the theme of getting yourself back together with love and partnership.”

That said, does this sound like a worthy follow-up to his smashing hit “Blurred Lines” to you? Because it doesn’t to me.
