Nick Gordon, the man Bobbi Kristina Brown called her “husband” but who had been raised by the late singer Whitney Houston as her sibling, has been placed on suicide watch. Hours after Bobbi Kristina passed away in hospice care, following the January 2015 near-drowning and hospitalization, his family fears for his safety.

As it happens, Nick Gordon is also the prime suspect in the ongoing police investigation to determine the events leading up to Krissi’s near-drowning incident on January 31. He has also been sued by the Houston Estate on the claims that he’d been drugging Krissi up and physically and emotionally abusing her so he could control her inheritance money.

Nick loved Krissi

Hollywood Life reports that Nick has been placed on suicide watch after news broke of Krissi’s death. Apparently, he had lived until then with the conviction that, if he’d been allowed to see her, he would have woken up.

“He is out of control with regret and sadness. He keeps saying that if only [Bobbi Kristina] had heard his voice, things would have been different. She may have lived,” a source close to him reveals for the celebrity e-zine.

Krissi was found unresponsive face-down in the bathtub in the home she shared with Nick. Paramedics managed to revive her and took her to the hospital, where she was placed in a medically-induced coma.

Also then, Bobby Brown, Krissi’s father, and Pat Houston, her aunt, barred Gordon from seeing her. They made it clear that they considered him responsible for what had happened to her, both in the sense that he had fed her addiction to drugs and alcohol, and that he had tried to drown her in an argument.

People Magazine partly confirms the other report, saying that, regardless of the things written about him in the press, Nick loved Krissi more than anything else, so he’s heartbroken and besides himself with grief at the thought of having lost her for good.

Nick’s odd behavior after Krissi’s January accident

After the January accident, Nick Gordon continued to tweet about her on social media, asking for prayers and going out of his way to show the world just how much he loved her. That usually meant saying it in words or even showing off a new arm tattoo with her name.

In March, he agreed to do an interview with Dr. Phil, which translated into an intervention put together by the TV star and Gordon’s estranged mother. The episode was pathetic and exploitative, and Dr. Phil earned himself harsh criticism including from Krissi’s family, who deemed him a vile person for giving a supposed killer and abuser a platform to defend himself and earn public sympathy.

Gordon appeared drunk on the show, though many questioned whether he wasn’t acting (and badly so). Shortly after the interview, he checked into rehab and continued with his life without inviting further criticism, i.e. he stopped tweeting and giving ill-advised interviews.

He didn’t even defend himself when the family accused him of treating Krissi worse than dirt. It is believed he is waiting for the police investigation to conclude before he makes another public stand.
