Video game developer EA Sports is announcing that a new version of the long-running NHL hockey simulation is set to be launched later in the year. Thus, it is inviting all fans of the sport to take part in the voting process that will decide who will be the cover athlete of the coming installment.

The process is organized by the studio in partnership with the National Hockey League and the National Hockey League Players’ Association, with eight superstars from the world of hockey set to be part of the voting, selected to represent both their clubs and their national teams.

Jamie Benn is representing both Canada and the Dallas Stars while the United States of America and the San Jose Sharks are here through Joe Pavelski. The Czech Republic and the Philadelphia Flyers are relying on Jakub Voracek.

Aleksander Barkov is the star of both Finland and the Florida Panthers, with Russia and the St. Louis Blues counting on Vladimir Tarasenko. At the same time, Sweden and the Tampa Bay Lightning will aim to make Victor Hedman the winner of the popular vote.

Finally, Anze Kopitar is the focus for Europe and the Los Angeles Kings while North America and the Edmonton Oilers are relying on Connor McDavid.

Gamers can deliver their vote on Twitter using the hashtag associated with their favorite player, and contributions can be doubled during Thursdays.

The cover athlete for NHL 17 will be revealed during the 2016 NHL awards

Gamers will need to support their favorites in any way they want during the coming weeks. Moreover, EA Sports is also offering a first official trailer for its coming hockey simulation, which focuses on how the developers are trying to create the biggest and most exciting title in the series by working with the fan community.

The studio states, "Whether you’re challenging a friend on the couch or building a team to compete at the most elite level, see how NHL 17 gives you the power to shape your hockey legacy no matter how you play the game."

NHL 17 will be launched on the PlayStation 4 from Sony and the Xbox One from Microsoft and will probably arrive at some point during September, based on the schedule the series kept during previous years.

More details about the gameplay of the title will probably be revealed during the coming E3 2016-associated events that Electronic Arts is playing, and some fans might even have the chance to actually play the game during June.
