Microsoft has announced the retirement of the Microsoft Support Diagnostic Tool, also known as MSDT, and the Windows legacy inbox troubleshooters, as the company is making the switch to the Get Help app bundled with the OS.

In a recent announcement, the company revealed that the big change will start taking place with the next version of Windows 11.

When it launches, most likely in the second half of this year, users will be automatically redirected to the Get Help platform bundled with Windows. This will happen when users launch certain troubleshooters.

In 2024, absolutely all troubleshooters will be redirected to the Get Help app, so they will be removed from Windows. The transition is projected to come to an end in 2025 when the MSDT platform will be pulled as well.

“Microsoft is retiring the Windows legacy inbox Troubleshooters, such as Keyboard troubleshooter and Speech troubleshooter, and the Microsoft Support Diagnostic Tool (MSDT) that runs them. The legacy inbox Windows Troubleshooters are built-in tools that, when launched, automatically diagnose and correct common problems for a variety of Windows features. MSDT Troubleshooters will be deprecated in the next Windows 11 release, with the date to be determined,” the company announced.

Microsoft says that only users who are running a version of Windows older than the one that’ll introduce the change will be affected, as the legacy troubleshooters will continue to run properly on these computers.

“The MSDT Troubleshooter deprecation, including redirection and removal of legacy inbox troubleshooters, will go into effect on devices running the next release of Windows 11. If you're running Windows 11 version 22H2 and older, Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 7 or any other earlier OS version, your device will not be affected by the MSDT Troubleshooter retirement. Earlier OS systems will continue to run the legacy inbox troubleshooters,” Microsoft said.
