The debut could take place at some point next year

With the release of the iPhone 14 this year, the smallest iPhone in Apple’s lineup will be the iPhone SE, which is currently based on the iPhone 8 design and therefore sports a 4.7-inch LCD screen.

The debut of the iPhone 14 will witness the demise of the iPhone mini, as Apple is killing off the 5.4-inch form factor in the favor of larger models.

As a result, the iPhone SE will remain the only option for any customer interested in a smaller option. Not for long though, as it looks like the Cupertino-based tech giant is planning to also kill off the traditional iPhone form factor and make the iPhone SE larger when the next generation goes live.

More specifically, leakster Jon Prosser claims that Apple will no longer use the iPhone 8 as the foundation of the next-gen iPhone SE but the iPhone XR.

This means the iPhone SE will no longer have a home button and Touch ID but come with a notch and Face ID, just like current-generation iPhones. Of course, it will also sport a larger display, as the iPhone XR uses a 6.1-inch LCD panel.

In other words, it looks like the days of small iPhones are numbered already, so once the next iPhone SE goes live, Apple will be entirely about the new-generation iPhone design.

As for when the next iPhone SE could go live, 2023 is very likely to witness its unveiling, though for now, such information is obviously unconfirmed. On the other hand, given the 2022 iPhone SE is still a new model, don’t be too surprised if Apple decides to wait until 2024 to take the wraps off the device.

For now, however, all details are still uncertain, so take everything with a healthy dose of skepticism.
