14 DAY TRIAL // Apple is expected to launch at least two new iPhone models this year, and one of them is likely to be an upgraded version of the iPhone X.
Well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from KGI Securities believes the 5.8-inch model to launch in 2018, and which is likely to be the direct successor to the iPhone X, will feature a welcome RAM upgrade to 4GB RAM. The same upgrade is expected to happen on the 6.5-inch iPhone X Plus as well.
At this point, the iPhone X uses only 3GB RAM, but as it’s the case with iOS devices, Apple relies heavily on software optimizations to boost the performance of its devices. On Android, the typical offering is between 4GB and 6GB RAM.
Battery update on the Plus-sized model
As compared to the standard 5.8-inch iPhone X launching this year, the Plus-sized model will also come with a noticeable battery upgrade, obviously thanks to the more generous space under the hood. The battery is expected to be at least 25 percent larger and have a capacity of up to 3,400 mAh.
On the other hand, all models will feature an L-shaped battery with a two-cell design, as compared to the existing units that employ the same shape, but with a single cell.
It goes without saying that these are just rumors and a certain amount of skepticism is recommended, though Kuo has previously proved to be pretty accurate on the majority of his Apple forecasts.
In addition to the two iPhone models based on the iPhone X, Apple is also expected to release a more affordable 6.1-inch device that would use an LCD display instead of AMOLED and lack more advanced functionality like 3D Touch.
Apple is thus trying to make its latest-generation iPhone models available to more buyers, as the high price point of the iPhone X has been considered to be one of the main reasons a substantial number of customers delayed their purchase this year.
