14 DAY TRIAL // Even though the number of improvements and new features coming to Windows phones with the feature2 update has only increased frustration in the community, some third-party companies still think the platform is worth a chance, so they launch their own devices running Windows 10 Mobile.
Trekstor is one of these companies, with a new model displayed a couple of weeks ago at the IFA show in Berlin. The so-called Trekstor WinPhone has been published on Microsoft’s website, but customers can’t purchase it just yet, most likely as the device is not ready for the time being.
Presented at IFA as WinPhone 5, the new Trekstor Windows phone is primarily aimed at enterprises and not at consumers, so it’s a little surprising to see the device listed on Microsoft’s website. In most of the cases, enterprises are provided with devices as part of contracts which allow them to negotiate prices and other details, so there’s a chance that consumers could also be allowed to buy the phone too.
Mid-range phone
The WinPhone, however, isn’t quite a high-end device, as it comes with a 1.5 GHz Snapdragon chip paired with 3GB RAM and 5.0-inch display. Mostly a mid-range model, it features a 13-megapixel main camera, as well as a 5-megapixel selfie shooter.
The phone is only listed in the German Microsoft Store and clicking the buy now link leads users to a different Amazon listing pointing to a Trekstor device featuring a 4.7-inch display, 1 GB RAM, and 8GB storage.
Most likely, the new Trekstor Windows phone is supposed to become available in the coming weeks, but given that Microsoft itself is turning to a rather silent release, it’s hard to believe this new model would generate too much excitement.
In the meantime, users who are still on Windows phones are waiting for more information from Microsoft regarding its mobile vision, with a feature2 update currently in the queue, though no confirmation on a release date is yet available.
