Microsoft working on new affordable model, source says

Microsoft is rethinking its mobile phone strategy with Windows 10 Mobile, and as CEO Satya Nadella said, only devices in three different categories will be launched, namely value, business, and high-end.

One of these value phones that could be launched with Windows 10 Mobile later this year might be the RM-1130, which has recently been spotted online in GFXBench benchmark logs.

As WinFuture reports, all specs seem to be pointing to a rather cheap device that would indeed help Microsoft tackle the value phone industry, so if this model is indeed under development, expect it to set a new low in terms of Windows Phone device pricing.

A sub-$100 price is very likely, with some sources pointing to an $80 tag currently being considered at Microsoft. But as you can see in the specs below, the price could drop even more than that.

Possible specs

The logs show that the RM-1130 comes with a 3.8-inch display with a resolution of 799x480 pixels, a Qualcomm Adreno 305 GPU unit, and Qualcomm dual-core CPU. Thanks to this small display and the Qualcomm processor, which is said to be specifically optimized for longer battery life, the new device is likely to offer excellent autonomy, but it remains to be seen how many buyers would actually be interested in a 3.8-inch device.

These early specs also show that the device comes with 60 GB of storage space, but that's most likely a combination of around 4 or 8 GB of internal storage and a microSD card. 180 MB of RAM appears to be used by running apps, so expect it to have 512 MB, which means that it should be able to run Windows 10 Mobile, but without some high-end features.

A 4.8-megapixel rear camera and a 0.3-megapixel unit are both likely to be offered.

Right now, there's no confirmation that these benchmarks are real or not, so take everything with a pinch of salt until Microsoft confirms them or we see the device go live.
