Windows enthusiast finds Windows 95 easter egg

The so many years old Windows 95 is already a relic, though I wouldn’t necessarily be surprised if you still come across some computers running it, especially for apps that haven’t been updated to support newer Windows.

Of course, this doesn’t make much sense given Windows 95 reached the RTM phase back in August 1995, so it’s already 26 years old, but some organizations out there are painfully slow when it comes to migrating to newer software.

If for some reason you’re still running Windows 95, or you have a backup computer where this operating system is currently installed, there’s a new Easter Egg that you could try on it.

Try it yourselves

Discovered by Twitter user @thebookisclosed, this appears to be an easter egg that nobody came across before, as it’s hiding in the Internet Mail of Internet Explorer 4. That’s right, if you’ve never thought of looking in there, someone else did, and what they discovered is a list of developers who worked on the program and hid their names in the app.

“It's never too late to find easter eggs. Happened to notice what looks like a never before seen easter egg in Windows 95's / IE4's Internet Mail. You have to open its About window, select one of the files, and type MORTIMER. Names of the program's developers will start scrolling,” the Windows enthusiast who discovered it reveals.

Needless to say, this doesn’t change anything and Windows 95 is still a platform that’s long gone, but on the other hand, it’s still interesting to find the easter eggs Microsoft itself has included in the platform.

If anything, you can try out the easter egg yourself without actually installing Windows 95, as you can load the operating system in the browser using this web-based emulator.
