Microsoft has released a new cumulative update for Windows 11, and the changelog points to highly anticipated improvements, including several aimed at the Start menu and File Explorer.

Windows 11 cumulative update KB5008215 therefore further refines the experience with the operating system, and the changelog includes lots of improvements aimed at the bugs reported lately.

This is good news for everybody, especially as Windows 11 is still rolling out to users right now. The rollout is projected to be finalized by the summer of the next year, so PCs out there are getting the update gradually.

Start menu improvements

As far as the Start menu, Windows 11 cumulative update KB5008215 resolves a glitch that blocked the app icons from showing up for some users.

“Addresses an issue that affects the Start menu when you install a large number of apps and change the screen resolution. The app names appear on the Start menu, but the app icons are missing. This update might also improve the reliability of the Start menu when you use secondary monitors in mixed resolution scenarios,” Microsoft explains in the release notes of this cumulative update.

At the same time, Microsoft says it has also renamed the Ease of Access folder to Accessibility in the Start menu for more consistency in Windows 11.

This new cumulative update also includes important updates for File Explorer. The file manager was previously crashing for some users after closing a window, and after installing this update, everything should be back to normal without any crashes whatsoever.

There are more fixes specifically aimed at File Explorer.

“Addresses an issue that affects apps that provide context (shortcut) menu items in File Explorer and desktop context menus. This issue occurs if these apps utilize Directory or Directory\Background registrations,” Microsoft explains.
