Microsoft has released new Windows 11 preview builds for users who are enrolled in the Beta channel of the Windows Insider program.

Starting earlier this year, the Beta channel comes with two builds every time, one that includes the new features already enabled for users getting it and a second one that ships with new features turned off by default.

These are the new builds that users can download today:

  • Build 22623.1028= New features rolling out.
  • Build 22621.1028 = New features off by default.

This time, there are no new features, as Microsoft has focused exclusively on bug fixes and performance improvements.

For example, the company resolves a glitch that causes explorer.exe to crash in safe mode.

But the one getting lots of fixes this time is the taskbar, with Microsoft explaining that it resolved not only crashes and leaks, but also other bugs that affected the way the taskbar works. Here are some of the most important taskbar improvements that are part of the new release:

  • Fixed an issue where, with the system tray design updates, auto-hiding the taskbar would stop working after you had interacted with the hidden icons flyout.
  • Made a small refinement for tablet-optimized taskbar users to make it a bit easier to expand the taskbar without invoking the Start menu.
  • Fixed an issue which could lead to the taskbar jump lists and preview thumbnails not appearing in the correct position for Insiders with 2-in-1 PCs.
  • Improved the transition animation when switching between collapsed and expanded views of the tablet-optimized taskbar.
  • The tablet-optimized taskbar should collapse more reliably now after launching an app from the Start menu.

The new builds also come with a series of known issues, and you can check the entire changelog on the official page right here.
